Servant Leader Stands with Mothers United for Peace in Protest in Rawson Square - Sept 3rd
The Activist and Advocate in our Servant Leader Ali McIntosh, came out strong on Wednesday September 2nd, when she braved the weather, and leaning on crutches to stand with the newly formed Mothers United For Peace in a protest in Rawson Square.
The group formed last month in direct response to the escalation of violent crimes and murder in the capital over the past few months. The organizers of the group are powerful young women with great potential in the nation. It is a bi-partisan, non-political group. Its objective is to agitate for stiffer penalties for criminals, and advocate for the laws to be carried out.
The group had a great first start and intends to protest lawmakers on a frequent basis. The group is inviting all women organizations and mother across the Bahamas to join the group and be a part of the solution not the problem. The group organizing Committee is led by Brenda T. Harris, a professional Accountant ( CPA) and single mother of an adult child.
Drivers and passerby shew their support for the group and the agenda by honking heir horns loudly, making it obvious to the Parliament in session, that there was support for the protest going on in the public square.
*As a note, the Prime Minister Perry Christie refused to respond to the group request to speak with them. However, the Leader of the Opposition Hubert Minnus, Hon Bernard Nottage, Minister of National Security, Hon Alfred Gray, Dr Andre Rollins and Greg Moss spoke with the protesters
